ISLAMABAD – In a diplomatic development ahead of a high-profile visit, Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to promoting peace between the United States and Iran, offering to mediate and support diplomatic solutions amid rising regional strains.
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, in a press briefing, stressed Islamabad’s resolve to ease the growing hostility between Tehran and Washington. “Iran is our close friend and a brotherly neighbouring country,” he said. “We remain committed to making a positive contribution to bring the tensions down and promote diplomatic solutions to the problem.”
The statement comes ahead of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s scheduled two-day visit to Islamabad from August 2, during which talks are expected to revolve around regional security and bilateral cooperation.
Pakistani officials, while maintaining discretion, hinted at backchannel efforts to help reduce tensions, amid growing concerns that further escalation could destabilize Pakistan’s western border and embolden militant elements.
Islamabad, known for its historic ties with both Tehran and Washington, is positioning itself as a bridge for dialogue, leveraging its strategic relationships and diplomatic outreach.
