ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN – Pakistan has clinched a Bronze Medal at the prestigious 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in France from July 17 to 25, 2025, marking a proud moment in the country’s scientific journey.
Daniyal Shahzad Hamid, a student of The Science School, T Chowk, Rawat, Islamabad, secured the Bronze Medal, making Pakistan stand tall among the world’s top young physicists.
Adding to the achievement, Muhammad Bilal from Sundar STEM School, Lahore, earned an Honorable Mention, while Eiman Fatima from Fazaia Inter College, PAF Base Nur Khan, Rawalpindi, received the Thales Solidarity IPhO Award, which includes a €5,000 educational grant and a one-year mentorship aimed at promoting inclusion in science and technology.
The Pakistani team was sponsored by the STEM Careers Program, a joint initiative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). The team was trained and led by Prof. Dr. Shahid Qamar and Dr. Muhammad Irfan, both from PIEAS.
PIEAS, under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), annually conducts the National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics—originating from the National Physics Talent Contest (NPTC) launched in 1995. These competitions continue to nurture Pakistan’s budding scientific minds for global excellence.
