Islamabad – Pakistan’s Foreign Office has categorically denied allegations made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who claimed that Pakistani nationals were fighting alongside Russian forces in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
Responding to the statement made by President Zelenskiy during a recent visit to Kharkiv, where he alleged the presence of mercenaries from several countries—including Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, and African states—Pakistan firmly rejected the accusations as baseless and misleading.
A spokesperson from the Foreign Office said on Monday that no Pakistani national has been sent to fight for any side in the war and that Pakistan maintains a policy of strict neutrality regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The spokesperson reiterated that any such reports are “unfounded and aimed at maligning Pakistan’s principled foreign policy stance.”
Earlier, similar claims had surfaced in international media about Pakistan supplying arms to Ukraine. However, both Islamabad and Moscow had dismissed these claims. The Russian envoy in Pakistan even confirmed that there was no evidence of weapons supply from Pakistan to Ukraine, appreciating Pakistan’s balanced approach in the conflict.
Ukrainian officials have yet to provide credible evidence backing the presence of Pakistani fighters on the front lines. Meanwhile, other countries named in the allegations—Tajikistan and Uzbekistan—have also rejected the claims.
Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, calling on all parties to exercise restraint.
