ISLAMABAD – Pakistan: The Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has declared that the conditions set by Afghanistan carry no weight, reaffirming that Pakistan’s primary focus remains on eliminating terrorism and securing its borders.
During a recent press briefing, Lt Gen Chaudhry made it clear that Pakistan does not view Afghanistan as a guarantor of its security. He stated that the Pakistan Armed Forces are fully capable of safeguarding national interests and territorial integrity without external assurances.
He further revealed that Pakistan had clearly communicated its expectations to the Afghan Taliban during talks in Istanbul. “They were told to curb cross-border terrorism — how they do it is their matter. Our concern is results, not promises,” he remarked.
The DG ISPR underscored that Pakistan continues to act decisively against militant outfits, including the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). He reiterated that these operations would persist until terrorism is eradicated from the country.
Addressing speculation about Pakistan’s stance on the Taliban’s return to power, Lt Gen Chaudhry clarified that Islamabad never celebrated their resurgence. Instead, Pakistan remains firm on its policy of regional peace and mutual respect, while prioritising its internal security.
