PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to deepen its partnership with Malaysia, focusing on mutually beneficial projects across trade, technology, and joint ventures. His remarks came during a press conference alongside Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim during an official visit to Putrajaya.
PM Shehbaz described Malaysia as a “second home” for Pakistan and praised the warmth extended by the Malaysian leadership, stressing that the two nations share a relationship based on “sincerity of purpose and true friendship.” He underlined that Pakistan is eager to build collaborations that not only enhance bilateral trade but also open doors for knowledge sharing in artificial intelligence, digital economy, infrastructure, and industrial growth.
Highlighting the vast potential for cooperation, Shehbaz announced Pakistan’s readiness to expand its meat exports to Malaysia, with a proposed deal worth nearly $200 million. He assured Malaysian authorities that Pakistan’s exports would fully comply with halal standards and regulatory frameworks.
The prime minister also lauded Malaysia’s remarkable progress in technology and innovation, expressing optimism that Pakistan could greatly benefit from its expertise. He emphasized that joint ventures will be designed to harness the comparative strengths of both countries, creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
Shehbaz further pointed out the contribution of nearly 150,000 Pakistanis residing in Malaysia, saying they are playing a constructive role in strengthening people-to-people ties. He called this a natural bridge for enhanced cooperation not only in business but also in culture and education.
During the visit, both nations signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), covering collaboration in education, science and technology, energy, and digital transformation. Leaders from both sides also exchanged views on global challenges, reaffirming their shared stance on promoting peace, counter-terrorism efforts, and economic resilience in the region.
The visit, marked by optimism and mutual respect, is expected to open a new chapter in Pakistan-Malaysia relations, setting the stage for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
