Islamabad, Pakistan – The naval leadership of Pakistan and Azerbaijan has reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen bilateral defence relations, with both sides pledging closer cooperation in maritime security, training, and regional stability, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The development came during a high-level meeting at the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf hosted the Commander of Azerbaijan Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov. The visit reflects the deepening strategic partnership between the two friendly nations and highlights their shared interest in enhancing defence collaboration.
Focus on Regional Maritime Security
During the discussions, both naval chiefs exchanged views on the evolving regional maritime security environment and explored avenues for expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Key topics included joint training opportunities, professional exchanges, and strengthening operational coordination to address emerging challenges in the maritime domain.
The two leaders emphasised the importance of closer naval ties as regional security dynamics continue to evolve, stressing that enhanced collaboration will contribute to peace and stability in the broader region.
Warm Reception and Symbolic Gestures
Rear Admiral Mammadov was received with a guard of honour by a contingent of Pakistan Navy personnel, underscoring the significance of the visit. The Azerbaijani naval commander also laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada’s Monument, paying tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs and symbolising the strong bond between the armed forces of both countries.
Strengthening a Longstanding Partnership
Pakistan and Azerbaijan have enjoyed long-standing fraternal relations, with defence cooperation forming an important pillar of their strategic engagement. In recent years, both countries have expressed interest in expanding military-to-military ties, enhancing interoperability, and promoting joint initiatives aimed at ensuring regional peace and security.
