WASHINGTON, USA – Former US President Donald Trump’s top aide Stephen Miller has strongly criticized India for continuing to import oil from Russia, claiming the move is helping fund Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
Speaking to Fox News, Miller said that India’s ongoing purchases were “not acceptable” and accused the South Asian giant of “financing Russia’s war machine.” He noted that India now imports nearly as much oil from Russia as China, calling it “astonishing.”
The remarks come as Washington imposes 25% tariffs on Indian goods, with threats to raise them to 100% unless India reconsiders its energy ties with Russia and backs a peace solution for Ukraine.
Indian officials, however, have defended their stance, stating their decisions are based on economic needs and energy security, not foreign pressure.
The growing rift highlights rising tensions in US-India relations, which had seen a period of growing cooperation in recent years.
