PESHAWAR – Pakistan: A newly formed 10-member cabinet, led by Sohail Afridi, has officially taken office in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following a swearing-in ceremony at the Governor’s House in Peshawar. The lineup includes two advisers and a special assistant, with the oaths administered by Faisal Karim Kundi, the province’s governor.
Mr Afridi, whose election as chief executive of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa preceded the cabinet formation, tapped names such as Meena Khan Afridi, Arshad Ayub Khan and Aftab Alam Afridi to serve in ministerial roles. Alongside them, Muzammil Aslam and Taj Muhammad were appointed as advisers, while Shafi Jan will assist as a special aide.
The announcement ends weeks of speculation and criticism aimed at the ruling Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) over delays in setting up the provincial administration. Lawmakers from opposition parties had raised concerns that the hold-up in cabinet formation could disrupt governance and even pave the way for an emergency-like scenario.
The new cabinet took its first collective step amid high expectations—expectations of renewed policy direction, improved public service delivery and stronger oversight. With an ambitious mandate ahead, Mr Afridi’s government now must prove its mettle by swiftly translating appointments into action.
