ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: In a landmark move for digital inclusion, Meta has launched the Urdu version of its AI assistant, marking a major step in making artificial intelligence more accessible to millions of Pakistanis. The launch, announced at the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), highlights Meta’s growing focus on empowering local users through language-friendly technology.
The Urdu-enabled Meta AI will now allow users to chat, research, and create content in their native language, significantly expanding access to digital tools for those less comfortable with English. The feature aims to bridge the linguistic gap that has long limited participation in the global tech ecosystem.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja hailed the initiative as a step toward achieving Pakistan’s Digital Nation Vision, ensuring that technology growth reaches every corner of society. “The inclusion of Urdu in Meta AI is not just about translation—it’s about representation and opportunity,” she stated, emphasizing that language should never be a barrier to innovation.
Meta’s Regional Public Policy Director, Sarim Aziz, noted that the company is also rolling out AI literacy programs for teachers and digital transformation support for government departments. The initiative includes a guide titled “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama”, designed to help institutions use AI for efficiency and innovation.
Experts believe this Urdu version could reshape how Pakistanis interact with technology—offering new possibilities in education, entrepreneurship, and governance. The move is expected to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation by making AI accessible, relatable, and practical for a wider population base.
With AI now speaking the language of the people, Pakistan’s tech horizon just got a lot more inclusive—and intelligent.
