BROWARD COUNTY – Former NBA player Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Broward County, Florida, on a felony fraud charge. The charge stems from allegedly writing a check with insufficient funds, a crime that led to his detention at a local airport. Morris is currently being held without bond as the case moves forward.
Morris, 35, is a 13-year NBA veteran who played for several teams, including the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. However, he has not been signed by any NBA team for the current season, and this arrest comes amid his absence from professional basketball.
In a social media statement, Morris downplayed the severity of the situation, asserting that the incident had been exaggerated and promising to provide more details in the near future. His brother, Markieff Morris, also voiced frustration over the public nature of the arrest, indicating that the family was dealing with the matter privately.
This legal issue is not the first for Marcus Morris, who previously participated in a diversion program after a 2012 battery charge. He was also acquitted of assault charges following a 2015 altercation. The latest incident adds to a growing list of legal challenges for the former NBA player, as he now faces the consequences of the fraud charge in Florida.
