ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: In a significant move to strengthen the country’s top judicial institution, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has carried out a sweeping reshuffle within its senior administrative hierarchy — a decision aimed at improving internal governance, efficiency, and coordination across its branches.
The development marks one of the most comprehensive reassignments in recent months, involving the appointment of key judicial officers to top administrative roles. Mohammad Laghari, currently serving as Secretary of the Supreme Judicial Council and a District & Sessions Judge of the Sindh High Court, has been appointed Registrar of the Supreme Court (BS-22) on deputation.
Similarly, Fakhar Zaman, a District & Sessions Judge from the Peshawar High Court who was working as Additional Registrar (Administration), has now been posted as Director General (Reforms) (BS-22) on deputation. Meanwhile, Abid Rizwan Abid, District & Sessions Judge of the Lahore High Court, has been brought in as Secretary of the Supreme Judicial Council (BS-22).
Additional adjustments were also made across regional registries in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar, as part of efforts to decentralize administrative command and ensure smoother coordination between judicial and registry functions.
Sources within the judiciary revealed that the reshuffle is part of a larger institutional reform plan initiated to streamline case management, strengthen accountability, and modernize operational workflows within the apex court. Legal observers view the timing of these changes as noteworthy, coming amid growing calls for judicial transparency and efficiency in case disposal.
The reshuffle, insiders suggest, also underscores the Chief Justice’s intent to align administrative reforms with judicial integrity, creating a more agile and performance-driven environment at the top tier of Pakistan’s justice system.
Whether these measures yield long-term results remains to be seen — but the intent to modernize the judiciary’s backbone is clear and deliberate.
