LIVERPOOL – English Premier League champions Liverpool have secured the transfer of French striker Hugo Ekitike from German club Eintracht Frankfurt in a major summer signing. The deal is reported to be worth £69 million in guaranteed funds, with potential add-ons bringing the total close to £79 million. Ekitike, aged 23, is expected to sign a six-year contract and undergo a medical shortly.
The forward impressed last season with 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions — performances that drew interest from clubs including Newcastle United and Manchester United. Liverpool reportedly accelerated talks after their pursuit of alternative target Alexander Isak stalled.
Ekitike is anticipated to join Liverpool’s squad while on preseason tour in Asia, with the possibility of making a debut appearance against AC Milan before further matches in Japan.
This marks Liverpool’s seventh acquisition this summer, following high-profile signings like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
In light of the incoming striker, Liverpool may need to offload players to comply with squad limits. Interest in forwards like Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez has intensified, with potential moves to clubs such as Bayern Munich and AC Milan respectively.
If finalised, the transfer is expected to bring Liverpool’s total summer spending close to £260 million as the club continues to invest heavily to maintain domestic dominance and strengthen its Champions League prospects.
