LAHORE, PAKISTAN: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a petition filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking to consolidate over a hundred cases registered against him across Punjab, citing non-prosecution after his legal team failed to appear before the court.
The plea, originally filed in 2023, aimed to merge more than 107 separate cases lodged against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman into a single proceeding to simplify legal management. However, during the recent hearing, no representative or counsel appeared on Khan’s behalf, leading the court to dismiss the petition under procedural rules of non-prosecution.
Court officials confirmed that the Punjab government’s counsel verified the existence of 107 cases pending against Khan in various districts. The bench observed that despite repeated opportunities, the petitioner’s side did not comply with the court’s directions, leaving the bench with no option but to dismiss the request.
Legal analysts believe this decision could complicate Khan’s legal battle, as it means each case will now proceed separately across multiple forums. This will likely increase the burden on his legal team and prolong proceedings already stretching across several jurisdictions.
Political observers say the development adds yet another layer of pressure on the embattled PTI chief, who has faced an ongoing series of legal and political challenges since his ouster in 2022. Whether Khan’s team moves to file a fresh plea or seeks reinstatement of the dismissed petition remains to be seen.
