LOS ANGELES – United States: Thirty original paintings by the beloved television artist Bob Ross are set to be auctioned this month at Bonhams in Los Angeles and other international venues, with all net proceeds directed to bolster public television stations across the United States.
The initiative — organised by American Public Television (APT) and Bob Ross Inc. — arrives at a critical time as public broadcasting networks face severe funding cutbacks, including a $1.1 billion reduction in federal support. Many smaller and rural stations are under pressure to maintain access to educational programming while upholding local journalism and culture.
Among the works to be released are landscapes created by Ross during filming of his popular show “The Joy of Painting”. Proceeds from this auction are intended to help fill the funding gap left by federal cuts and ensure that public‑television stations continue to thrive in a changing media landscape.
