ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI — Pakistan – Lawyers in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have launched a multi‑day strike in protest of the recent deadly attack on the district and sessions courts complex in Islamabad, demanding swift accountability and stronger security for legal institutions.
The strike, announced by the Islamabad Bar Council and supported by the Rawalpindi District Bar Association, will run from November 12 to 14, during which courtroom appearances are suspended and legal proceedings are paused. The move follows a devastating explosion at the judicial complex, which claimed lives and left numerous lawyers, staff and litigants injured.
Bar associations expressed deep anger, calling the assault an attack not just on individuals, but on the rule of law itself. They demanded a transparent investigation into the bombing, organisational lapses, and raised concerns about inadequate protection for legal professionals and court premises.
Lawyers say they stand united in grief and solidarity with the victims, while the district administration has implemented heightened security measures, including stricter screening and vehicle checks at court entrances. The strike marks one of the rare instances of judicial protests paralyzing court operations in the federal capital and its adjacent division.
