PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Pakistan has launched a province-wide polio immunisation campaign with the goal of vaccinating 5.7 million children under the age of five.
The drive, which began on Monday, is part of national efforts to eradicate the crippling disease. More than 32,000 teams have been deployed across urban and rural areas to ensure maximum coverage. Health workers will conduct door-to-door visits to administer the vaccine, while special teams have been assigned to transit points, bus stands, and railway stations.
According to officials, the campaign will continue for seven days in high-risk districts and five days in other areas. Over 30,000 police personnel have been tasked with providing security to health workers during the drive.
The provincial health department urged parents to cooperate fully with vaccination teams and ensure their children receive the life-saving drops. Authorities also appealed to religious leaders and community elders to support the initiative and dispel misconceptions surrounding polio vaccination.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains among the provinces most vulnerable to polio outbreaks, making the success of this campaign critical for the country’s fight against the virus.
