ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Murat Nurtleu, is arriving in Islamabad tomorrow on a two-day official visit, carrying a strong message of bilateral cooperation ahead of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s scheduled state visit to Pakistan in November 2025.
Leading a 13-member high-powered delegation, including Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Nurtleu will hold a one-on-one meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, followed by delegation-level talks. He is also expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, signaling the importance both nations are placing on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
The agenda for the visit is extensive, covering trade, investment, agriculture, IT, education, culture, tourism, and regional connectivity. Joint Working Groups are also expected to convene, particularly focusing on agriculture and information technology, two sectors both countries are keen to expand cooperation in.
With current bilateral trade standing at around $239 million, Kazakhstan is considered one of Pakistan’s most significant partners in Central Asia. The partnership includes growing agricultural exports, notably mangoes, and an emphasis on logistics and connectivity that would serve both nations and the broader region.
Officials view this visit as a stepping stone to President Tokayev’s upcoming visit, with hopes that new agreements and frameworks will be established to accelerate trade, cultural exchange, and regional cooperation. The engagement also aligns with Pakistan’s “Vision Central Asia” policy, which prioritizes deeper political and economic linkages with regional states.
