Karachi is expected to feel a sharp drop in temperature following the city’s first spell of winter rain, as cold Siberian winds move southward over Pakistan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Sunday.
Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several parts of the metropolis, breaking the prolonged dry spell and marking the onset of winter weather. While the rain brought relief from dry conditions, meteorologists warn that it will be followed by colder air masses, intensifying the chill across the city.
According to the PMD, continental cold air originating from Siberian regions is advancing toward the country’s southern areas, including Sindh. As a result, nighttime temperatures in Karachi are expected to dip significantly over the next few days, with cool to cold winds prevailing, especially during early morning and late-night hours.
Weather officials noted that the drop in temperature may feel more intense due to increased wind speed and humidity following the rain. Citizens have been advised to take precautions, particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
The change in weather is also expected to impact daily routines, with colder mornings anticipated through the remainder of the week. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to remain cautious as sea conditions may become slightly rough due to shifting wind patterns.
Authorities have urged the public to stay updated with official weather advisories and prepare for colder conditions as winter strengthens its grip on the port city.
