DOHA – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Qatar on Tuesday for high-stakes defence talks aimed at acquiring Eurofighter Typhoon jets from Doha, as Ankara seeks to modernize its air fleet amid growing regional tensions.
The potential deal — reportedly involving up to a dozen aircraft — marks Turkey’s latest step to strengthen its air capabilities after being excluded from the U.S. F-35 fighter jet program. Sources suggest the two nations are exploring a government-to-government transfer, reflecting deepening military and strategic ties.
Analysts view the move as part of Ankara’s broader plan to diversify its defence suppliers and expand cooperation with Gulf allies. If finalized, the acquisition would boost Turkey’s deterrence power while reinforcing Qatar’s role as a key defence partner in the Middle East.
