JAKARTA – Indonesia – At least 50 people, including many students, were injured when multiple explosions rocked a mosque inside a high school complex during Friday prayers in North Jakarta. A 17-year-old has been identified by police as a suspect in the incident.
The blasts occurred at a mosque within a school compound in Kelapa Gading, prompting panic as worshippers fled in shock. Officials said most of the injured suffered burns or wounds from flying debris, and an investigation is underway to determine whether the incident was deliberate or accidental.
Security forces cordoned off the area, and authorities cautioned against speculation while forensic teams processed the scene. The event comes at a time when Indonesia has largely seen a lull in large-scale attacks, raising concern and urgency around the cause and motive behind these explosions.
