INDONESIA — The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the urgent appeals of the Israel Gymnastics Federation (IGF) to allow Israeli gymnasts to participate in the upcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta.
The Indonesian government had previously denied entry visas to the Israeli athletes, citing public opposition and diplomatic considerations. The IGF had sought CAS intervention to either compel Indonesia to grant visas or to relocate the event.
CAS declined to intervene, leaving Israeli gymnasts excluded from the competition. The decision has sparked disappointment among the Israeli gymnastics community, who were hoping for international representation at the prestigious event.
The exclusion highlights ongoing tensions in international sports where political considerations continue to impact athletes’ participation in global competitions.
