Beijing — Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar is set to visit China on January 4 to co-chair the seventh round of the Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, a key diplomatic engagement aimed at reviewing and strengthening bilateral ties.
The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and underscores the growing importance both countries attach to their long-standing strategic partnership. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the high-level dialogue is considered the highest consultative forum between Islamabad and Beijing, providing an opportunity to discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.
During the talks, both sides are expected to comprehensively review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-China relations, including political coordination, economic cooperation, security collaboration, and regional developments. Special emphasis is likely to be placed on enhancing cooperation under existing frameworks and exploring new avenues for mutual benefit.
The dialogue also comes at a symbolic moment, as Pakistan and China prepare to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Several commemorative initiatives and future cooperation plans are expected to be discussed and possibly announced during the visit, reflecting the depth and continuity of ties between the two countries.
Officials say the discussions will reaffirm the shared commitment to the “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership,” a term frequently used by both capitals to describe their relationship. The dialogue is also expected to touch upon regional peace, stability, and sustainable development, areas where Pakistan and China have consistently expressed aligned views.
Sources indicate that Senator Ishaq Dar’s visit may span several days, allowing for additional bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the formal dialogue. The last round of the strategic dialogue was held in Islamabad, further highlighting the regularity and institutional strength of this diplomatic mechanism.
The upcoming talks are being closely watched, as they are likely to set the tone for Pakistan-China relations in the coming year and signal both countries’ intentions regarding regional cooperation and strategic coordination.
