ISLAMABAD – Authorities in Pakistan have intensified action against illegal donkey meat sales after a raid in Tarnol, Islamabad uncovered nearly 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat and 50 live donkeys. A foreign national was arrested, and the illegal slaughterhouse is suspected of supplying the meat for local consumption and possible export. The discovery has raised alarm over public health risks and religious violations.
Islamic scholars reaffirm that domesticated donkey meat is haram (forbidden) under Islamic law, referencing authentic narrations from the Prophet Muhammad, while wild donkey meat (ghur or onagers) is considered halal.
How to Tell If You’re Eating Donkey Meat
