ISLAMABAD – Amid a fresh wave of speculation surrounding the health and wellbeing of former prime minister Imran Khan, both the federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have moved to assure the public that he remains in “good health,” even as unanswered questions continue to stir nationwide concern.
Over the past several days, social media has been flooded with claims regarding Imran Khan’s alleged deteriorating health, secret movements within the jail system, and restricted access for family members and legal representatives. The rumours gained traction after multiple failed attempts by Khan’s close relatives to meet him at Adiala Jail, raising fears about why such meetings were being repeatedly denied.
Government officials, however, have strongly rejected all such claims. They insist that Imran Khan is being kept at Adiala Jail under the prescribed security protocol and is receiving regular medical check-ups, appropriate diet and all necessary facilities. According to the jail administration, there has been no transfer, no emergency and no shift to a high-security undisclosed location.
PTI leaders, while echoing that they have “no confirmed evidence” of any medical emergency, argue that the government’s refusal to allow family access is itself alarming. They maintain that transparency is the only way to settle the matter and have demanded immediate visitation rights for family and lawyers.
The situation escalated further when PTI lawmakers raised the issue in the Senate, insisting that the government clarify the former premier’s exact health status. They warned that keeping Khan in “unexplained isolation” would only fuel speculation and create more political volatility. On the other hand, the government continues to maintain that all protocols are being followed and accuses PTI of amplifying rumours for political mileage.
The controversy has once again highlighted the deep mistrust between political stakeholders, as well as the fragile flow of verified information regarding high-profile detainees. Observers note that the absence of transparent communication often becomes fertile ground for misinformation, adding further strain to an already polarised environment.
For now, both sides continue to claim that “all is well,” but with limited access and no independent verification, the public’s questions remain very much alive — and louder than ever.
