LAHORE – Hyundai Nishat Motor (HNMPL) is making bold strides in Pakistan’s automotive sector by spearheading the local production of hybrid vehicles. From sedans to SUVs, the brand is rolling out fuel-efficient, tech-savvy options tailored to the Pakistani market—and even making waves internationally.
The latest in this green push is the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, unveiled at the Pakistan Auto Parts Show in October 2024. Touted as the first locally-assembled hybrid sedan, the 7th-generation Elantra Hybrid features a 1.6L Smartstream GDi engine paired with a 1.32 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 6-speed DCT. With city mileage hovering between 20–25 km/L, it offers a compelling blend of economy and everyday performance.
But Hyundai’s hybrid vision doesn’t stop there.
In October 2023, HNMPL introduced the Santa Fe Hybrid, becoming Pakistan’s first manufacturer to assemble a hybrid SUV locally. Available in Smart (FWD) and Signature (AWD) trims, the Santa Fe delivers 227 hp, impressive safety features, and advanced comforts like HTRAC AWD, 360° cameras, ventilated seats, and smartphone integration. Fuel economy clocks in at around 16 km/L in city driving.
Taking things a notch higher, Hyundai launched the Tucson Hybrid nationwide on May 7, 2025. As Pakistan’s first AWD hybrid SUV, it boasts a 1.6L T-GDi engine, 47.7 kW electric motor, and 1.49 kWh battery, producing 232 hp and 367 Nm of torque. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Tucson also includes multi-terrain modes, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, dual 12.3″ displays, and advanced driver-assist systems—marking a leap in localized hybrid luxury.
Significantly, the Santa Fe Hybrid is now being exported to Sri Lanka, signaling a new era of automotive manufacturing from Pakistan to the region.
Hyundai Nishat’s local hybrid rollout reflects a commitment to innovation, reduced import dependency, and smarter, sustainable driving experiences for Pakistani consumers.
