Tehran — Iran has adopted a defiant stance against renewed threats from the United States, asserting that external pressure will not influence its internal policies, even as protests over economic hardships and inflation continue to spread across the country.
In recent remarks, US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could respond “very harshly” if Iranian authorities escalated measures against demonstrators. Tehran, however, has made it clear that it will not be intimidated and will take a firm approach against those it considers “rioters,” while continuing to uphold its narrative of maintaining national stability.
The unrest, which began over a plunging rial and soaring prices, has now extended to multiple cities and provinces. Iranian officials insist that while peaceful protest is a legitimate right, attempts to destabilize the country will be met with strict judicial and security measures. The judiciary has issued clear instructions to take action against those accused of inciting violence or unrest.
Iranian lawmakers and Foreign Ministry officials have repeatedly emphasised that foreign threats and interference — including those from the United States — will not dictate the country’s actions. Tehran has framed such warnings as “provocative” and has called for national unity and cohesion in the face of external pressure.
This confrontation comes amid long-standing tensions between Tehran and Washington, encompassing issues such as Iran’s nuclear program, regional influence, and historical sanctions. Iranian leaders maintain that meaningful dialogue with the US is unlikely while the country faces coercion or military threats.
Analysts note that the situation highlights the complex balancing act Iran is navigating: addressing domestic grievances, projecting strength internationally, and resisting foreign influence, all while facing economic challenges that continue to fuel public dissatisfaction.
Despite mounting international scrutiny and ongoing protests, the message from Tehran remains unambiguous: the country will chart its own course, and external threats will not deter its leadership from pursuing internal stability and sovereign decision-making.
