COLOMBO – India Women secured a narrow three-run victory over Pakistan Women in a rain-affected second One-Day International (ODI) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday, leveling the three-match series at 1-1.
Batting first, India posted 168 for 6 in 35 overs after persistent showers delayed the start and reduced the match to a 35-over contest. Opener Smriti Mandhana anchored the innings with a composed 56 off 72 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur added a brisk 38. Pakistan’s Nashra Sandhu impressed with the ball, claiming 3 for 34 to keep the target within reach.
In response, Pakistan looked well-placed at 92 for 2, with Sidra Ameen contributing 47 runs. However, a disciplined bowling effort from India, led by Renuka Singh’s 3 for 28, turned the tide. Pakistan ultimately fell short, finishing on 165 for 8, as the required run rate climbed in the closing overs.
The win sets up a decisive final match, with both teams seeking momentum ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s Championship fixtures. India’s fielding coach lauded the side’s composure under pressure, while Pakistan’s skipper called for “greater intent” in the middle overs.
The series finale will be played on Wednesday at the same venue, with the forecast again predicting rain interruptions.
