India – The Union Cabinet of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the country’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The decision reflects India’s ambition to highlight its sporting infrastructure and cultural heritage on an international stage.
Ahmedabad has been identified as the ideal host city due to its advanced stadiums and training facilities. The Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium, has already demonstrated its capacity by hosting major international events. The ongoing development of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave is expected to further strengthen the city’s sports infrastructure.
The cabinet’s approval includes signing the Host Collaboration Agreement and providing guarantees from relevant ministries and departments. A grant-in-aid has also been allocated to the Gujarat government, contingent on the success of the bid. The host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games is expected to be announced in the coming months.
This initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of enhancing its international sports profile and could serve as a stepping stone toward hosting larger global events in the future.
