ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, has overturned the party’s recent decision to participate in the upcoming by-elections. The reversal comes after a meeting between Imran and PTI’s political committee, held under his instructions at Adiala Jail.
Earlier that day, the political committee had voted 12–9 in favour of contesting the by-polls, a decision announced by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja. However, Imran expressed his disagreement and instructed the committee to reverse course.
Imran’s sister, Aleema Khanum, who had met him prior to the decision, confirmed that he firmly advised against contesting as a boycott was preferable—it would avoid legitimizing recent disqualifications and strengthen the broader message of freedom and justice.
Following Imran’s direction, the committee adopted the boycott stance, with party lawmakers preparing to withdraw from parliamentary bodies like the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as a sign of protest.
