Islamabad – Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has confirmed that former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan underwent a medical procedure for an eye ailment which was completed smoothly, with his vital signs remaining stable throughout.
According to an official statement issued by Professor Dr Rana Imran Sikander, Executive Director of PIMS, the procedure was carried out after Imran Khan reported reduced vision in his right eye. Hospital authorities said the intervention lasted around 20 minutes and was performed under standard medical protocols inside the operation theatre.
Detailed Medical Assessment Conducted
PIMS officials stated that before the procedure, a qualified ophthalmologist conducted a thorough examination at Adiala Jail. The assessment included multiple diagnostic tests such as ocular endoscopy, measurement of intraocular pressure, retinal imaging, and other essential evaluations to determine the cause of his symptoms.
Doctors diagnosed Imran Khan with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, a condition that can lead to serious vision impairment if not treated promptly. Following the diagnosis, the medical team recommended immediate hospital-based treatment.
Consent and Post-Procedure Care
Hospital authorities said Imran Khan was shifted to PIMS late at night, where he was fully briefed about the procedure. After providing consent, he was taken into the operation theatre for treatment.
Dr Sikander emphasised that proper consent procedures were followed, and post-treatment care instructions were issued. Imran Khan was discharged after the intervention with follow-up advice and necessary medical documentation.
Political Attention on Health Updates
The medical procedure comes amid heightened political and public interest in Imran Khan’s health. PTI leaders have repeatedly raised concerns about transparency regarding his medical condition and have demanded access for his personal doctors.
The party had also approached the Supreme Court seeking assistance in arranging medical consultations and meetings, arguing that independent assessment was necessary.
Despite the political debate, PIMS authorities maintained that the procedure was routine, conducted professionally, and completed without complications, confirming that Imran Khan’s condition remained stable.
