ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has directed all party lawmakers to resign from every standing committee of the National Assembly.
The decision was communicated following a lengthy meeting of PTI’s political committee, reflecting the party’s unified approach under Khan’s leadership. Several lawmakers, including key figures, have reportedly prepared their resignations, which are expected to be formally submitted to the National Assembly Speaker.
This move aligns with PTI’s broader political strategy, particularly in response to the disqualification of certain party members linked to the May 9, 2023, unrest. Khan has also emphasized a boycott of upcoming by-elections, arguing that participating would legitimize the polls, a stance that has sparked internal debate within the party.
Despite differing opinions among party members, PTI officials have underscored the importance of following Khan’s directives, signaling the party’s commitment to a coordinated political response. Analysts note that these resignations may significantly impact the party’s parliamentary influence while highlighting its ongoing protest strategy.
