GLOBAL – In a landmark move for gender parity in sport, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a major increase in prize funds for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup, catapulting the tournament’s financial rewards past those of the men’s World Cup two years earlier.
The total prize pot for the eight-team competition now stands at $13.88 million, marking an extraordinary rise of nearly 300% from the previous edition. The champions will take home $4.48 million, dwarfing the $4 million awarded to the men’s winners in 2023.
The runners-up will receive $2.24 million, while each losing semi-finalist pockets $1.12 million. Participation is also rewarded—each team is guaranteed $250,000, with additional match-win bonuses, including $34,314 per group-stage victory. Teams placing fifth through eighth will receive between $280,000 and $700,000.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the move as a “defining milestone” for women’s cricket, reaffirming the board’s commitment to treating female cricketers on par with their male counterparts. He emphasized that this step is intended to boost the sport’s growth and visibility, inspiring the next generation of players and fans.
