LOS ANGELES – Actor Chris Hemsworth has clarified that his recent social media tribute to his 15-year journey as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was meant as an expression of gratitude—not a goodbye announcement—amid fan speculation ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.
In a heartfelt video montage entitled “Thank You! The Legacy of Thor,” Hemsworth reflected on iconic moments from his career and thanked fans for their unwavering support. The emotional tone of the post quickly sparked rumours that he was saying goodbye to the role. However, he has now set the record straight, explaining that the tribute was simply a celebration crafted by his team and himself to mark the character’s legacy—not a farewell.
“When fans began interpreting it as something else, someone on my team acknowledged that it could be misread,” Hemsworth said in a recent interview. He emphasised that no damage control was ever necessary, describing the video instead as “a moment of gratitude”, adding that he is already stepping into “another chapter” with the role.
His confirmation comes ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, in which Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor. The character continues to be central in the MCU’s evolving storyline, indicating that his journey is far from over.
