LONDON / MONTECITO: Prince Harry has firmly dismissed swirling media claims that reconciliation with his father, King Charles III, is in progress, stressing that the monarch remains distant amid a bitter dispute over security.
Speaking in an interview, Harry clarified that despite his willingness to heal ties, much of the chatter about rapprochement is misleading. At the heart of the rift lies his ongoing battle with the UK government over security protection. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry lost his appeal against a Home Office decision that stripped him of automatic police protection during his visits to Britain. He branded the ruling a “stitch-up” and said this unresolved issue blocks meaningful reconciliation.
The Duke of Sussex admitted feeling “devastated” by the verdict, adding that it not only endangers his safety but also deters him from bringing his family to the UK. He underlined that while time feels pressing due to King Charles’s health, the royal family’s silence continues to widen the gap.
Buckingham Palace has stood firm, maintaining that the matter has been settled through legal channels, with courts upholding the government’s stance. Yet Harry insists his door remains open, even as forgiveness within the family may remain elusive following the fallout from his memoir Spare and public interviews.
The clash underscores the deepening strain between Harry and the monarchy, where personal reconciliation appears far from reality until the security standoff is resolved.
