PARIS, France – French prosecutors have formally requested a criminal trial for Paris Saint-Germain and Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi over rape allegations stemming from an incident in February 2023. The woman, 24, claims the assault took place at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt after they connected via Instagram.
Hakimi was charged last year, though the alleged victim initially did not file a formal complaint. The case has since advanced through judicial proceedings, with both parties maintaining opposing narratives—Hakimi denying the accusation as “an attempted scam,” while the woman’s legal team welcomed the prosecutors’ recent move.
The final decision now lies with the investigating judge, who will determine whether the case moves to trial. If convicted, Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison under French law. His legal team has vowed to appeal any indictment, calling the prosecution’s demand “senseless.”
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Hakimi has continued to feature for PSG and the Moroccan national team.
