PAKISTAN – After months of silence and unmet promises, Pakistan’s Karate Combat World Champion Shahzaib Rindh has finally received an official apology from Information Minister Attaullah Tarar over delays in the disbursement of financial rewards and training support.
The champion, who made history by defeating Brazil’s Bruno Roberto De Assis in Karate Combat KC-49, had earlier revealed that despite widespread praise, not a single rupee from the pledged Rs100 million had been transferred. He self-funded his intensive training stint at Goat Shed Academy in Miami, preparing for his global victory without any state assistance.
Facing mounting public criticism after Shahzaib’s viral social media posts, the Information Minister issued a formal apology on X, calling the delay “unjustified” and assuring the Prime Minister had now intervened. He added, “Sportsmen like you are our real heroes… We value your achievements.”
Shahzaib acknowledged the government’s renewed commitment, expressing hope that future athletes wouldn’t have to fight as hard off the mat as they do on it.
