ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: The government has unveiled an extensive plan to modernise police forces across the country in an effort to strengthen national security and enhance counterterrorism capabilities. The initiative aims to equip law enforcement with advanced technology, upgraded weaponry, and improved infrastructure to effectively respond to evolving terror challenges.
Under the new strategy, the federal and provincial authorities are focusing on upgrading surveillance systems, command-and-control centres, and communication networks. Police units will receive anti-drone systems, night-vision devices, thermal imaging scopes, and armoured vehicles, particularly in high-risk and border areas that remain vulnerable to militant activities.
Officials stated that this move comes in response to the changing dynamics of terrorism in the region, where militants have adopted modern warfare tools including drones and long-range weaponry. “Traditional policing is no longer sufficient,” a senior security source said, emphasizing that intelligence-based operations and technology integration will now be the cornerstone of Pakistan’s counterterrorism response.
The plan also includes enhanced training for police personnel, structural reforms within provincial forces, and increased coordination with intelligence agencies. Experts, however, have stressed the need for consistent funding, fair resource allocation, and transparent oversight to ensure the success of the project.
Citizens and security analysts alike have welcomed the initiative, calling it a much-needed shift towards proactive policing. If implemented effectively, the modernisation drive could mark a significant step in Pakistan’s ongoing battle against terrorism and extremism, ensuring a stronger, faster, and more resilient police force.
