PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN: The political landscape of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed a major shift as Governor Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed receiving Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s handwritten resignation on Saturday. The letter, dated October 11, was hand-delivered to the Governor House around 2:30 pm by Gandapur’s special assistant, Brigadier (retd) Musaddiq Abbasi.
In an official statement, the Governor said the resignation has been acknowledged and entered into record, assuring that it will be processed in line with constitutional and legal provisions. The confirmation ended hours of speculation over whether the resignation had reached the Governor, as conflicting reports earlier created confusion in political circles.
The move has sent shockwaves through the provincial political arena, with senior figures from the ruling party now engaged in intense consultations to decide on a possible successor. According to inside sources, Sohail Afridi has emerged as the leading contender for the top provincial slot, though final deliberations are still underway.
Observers say Gandapur’s resignation signals a significant shift within the party’s internal structure, possibly reflecting broader strategic changes at the federal level. The coming days are expected to determine whether this move strengthens or destabilizes the provincial administration.
