ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning of another intense monsoon spell beginning August 29 and lasting until September 2, expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple regions of the country.
Areas Likely to Be Affected
- Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: From August 29 to September 2, widespread heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Mirpur, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, and adjoining areas.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan are likely to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms between August 29 and September 1.
- Punjab: Strong monsoon activity is expected across Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Murree, D.G. Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur between August 29 and September 2.
- Sindh: Sukkur, Tharparkar, Jacobabad, and Larkana may receive rain with occasional breaks between August 30 and 31.
- Balochistan: Zhob, Khuzdar, Kalat, Loralai, and Sibi are forecast to experience rain and thunderstorms from August 30 to September 1.
Risks and Warnings
Authorities have cautioned about the possibility of flash floods in hilly areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Kashmir. There is also a high risk of urban flooding in major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Mardan, from August 29 night to September 1. Landslides in vulnerable mountainous regions may further disrupt transport and communication networks.

The public has been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas, and take precautionary measures to minimize risks during the ongoing spell.
