PARACHINAR – A powerful roadside bomb explosion in the Pewar area of Upper Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claimed the lives of four civilians and left four others injured on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Habibullah Khan, the incident occurred in the Sharamkhel locality, where a group of villagers had gone to collect firewood when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the roadside.
The deceased were identified as Nawab Ali, Amir Hussain, Hidayat Hussain, and Manzar Ali, while the injured—Muhammad Konain, Shafaat Hussain, Hassan Ghulam, and one unidentified individual—were initially treated at District Headquarters Hospital Parachinar and later shifted to Peshawar for further medical care.
One of the survivors, Hassan Ghulam, told reporters that the group was gathering firewood near the mountains when the blast occurred. Their horses were also killed in the explosion.
The incident sparked outrage among local residents and tribal elders, who condemned the attack and demanded immediate action from the authorities. Community leaders urged law enforcement agencies to launch a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. Some also expressed concern that such acts could once again disturb the region’s hard-earned peace.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area, while police teams are collecting forensic evidence to trace those responsible.
Parachinar and surrounding areas in Upper Kurram have experienced multiple security challenges in recent years, including sectarian violence and militant attacks. In late 2024, a similar outbreak of tribal clashes left over 100 people dead and disrupted normal life for weeks.
