PAKISTAN – At least five people were killed in a tragic road accident in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rescue officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when a passenger van collided head-on with a speeding truck on the main highway connecting the area to other parts of the province. According to Rescue 1122, the impact was so severe that all five occupants of the van died on the spot. Emergency teams responded quickly, recovering the bodies and transporting them to a nearby hospital for legal formalities and identification.
Initial reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by reckless driving or overspeeding, though an official investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased.
District administration officials expressed concern over the rising number of traffic-related deaths and stressed the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, especially on highways where accidents remain frequent due to poor road conditions, inadequate signage, and negligent driving practices.
Local residents have also urged the government to implement improved safety measures and enhance road infrastructure to prevent further tragedies.
