Swat – At least seven people, including five children, lost their lives on Monday as flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains devastated parts of Swat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to emergency services.
Rescue 1122 officials reported that in the Sur Dherai area of Malam Jabba, a woman and her two sons — aged 10 months and 7 years — were swept away while attempting to cross a flooded stream. Their bodies were recovered after hours of search efforts.
In a separate incident in the Gujar Band Shanko area of Madyan, the roof of a house collapsed due to rain-induced flooding, killing three children. A woman sustained injuries in the same incident and was shifted to Civil Hospital Madyan for treatment.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shafiqa Gul, rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, and teams remain on high alert due to the persistent risk of flash floods in the hilly terrain.
Swat and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have witnessed widespread damage and rising casualties during the ongoing monsoon spell. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued warnings for flash floods, urging residents to avoid crossing streams and to remain cautious in low-lying or landslide-prone areas.
Local authorities have reiterated the need for compliance with safety advisories, particularly under Section 144 restrictions that ban access to vulnerable water bodies during extreme weather.
