TEL AVIV – Israel: A former senior Israeli military lawyer has been arrested after being reported missing amid a growing scandal over a leaked video showing the alleged abuse of a Palestinian detainee.
The official, who previously served as the Military Advocate General, was reportedly at the centre of controversy after a video surfaced showing soldiers assaulting a bound and blindfolded Palestinian prisoner at a detention facility. The footage, which triggered national outrage, led to investigations into multiple soldiers for misconduct.
Authorities later confirmed the arrest of the ex-official following her brief disappearance. Her car was found abandoned near a Tel Aviv beach, prompting a search operation before she was taken into custody for questioning.
The case has intensified scrutiny of Israel’s treatment of Palestinian detainees and raised questions about accountability within its military justice system. Human rights groups have urged transparency in handling both the abuse allegations and the subsequent leaks.
