Islamabad — Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfraz Dogar, has reaffirmed that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equality before the law for all citizens, underscoring the judiciary’s responsibility to uphold fundamental rights without discrimination.
The remarks were made during a Christmas ceremony held at the Islamabad High Court, attended by judges, members of the legal fraternity and representatives of the Christian community. Speaking on the occasion, Justice Dogar emphasised that Pakistan’s Constitution clearly ensures equal protection of the law to every individual, regardless of religion, ethnicity or social background.
He noted that the judiciary remains committed to safeguarding constitutional rights and ensuring that justice is administered fairly and impartially. “Equality before the law is not merely a principle written in the Constitution, but a binding obligation that courts must enforce in letter and spirit,” he said.
Justice Dogar highlighted the importance of religious harmony and mutual respect in a pluralistic society, stating that diversity is a strength that must be protected through justice and tolerance. He stressed that minorities are an integral part of the country’s social fabric and have made valuable contributions in various fields, including law, education and public service.
The chief justice also paid tribute to former Chief Justice A.R. Cornelius, recalling his legacy of integrity, courage and unwavering commitment to constitutionalism. He said such examples continue to guide the judiciary in promoting justice and protecting fundamental freedoms.
Referring to the broader role of courts, Justice Dogar said that ensuring equality before the law helps build public trust in institutions and strengthens democracy. He reiterated that discrimination in any form has no place in the justice system and that the courts will continue to act as guardians of constitutional rights.
The event concluded with messages of unity and goodwill, reflecting the judiciary’s resolve to foster an environment where all citizens feel respected, protected and equal before the law.
