LOS ANGELES – Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an AI-driven encyclopedia designed to rival Wikipedia, claiming it will counter what he calls the “left-leaning bias” of the world’s largest online knowledge platform.
Developed under Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI, Grokipedia went live this week in its early “v0.1” version with nearly 900,000 articles — far fewer than Wikipedia’s extensive database. Musk described the project as a “truth-seeking” platform powered by xAI’s language model, Grok.
Early users noted that while Grokipedia’s interface resembles Wikipedia, its content generation relies heavily on AI rather than volunteer editors. Critics, however, have expressed concerns about potential inaccuracies, ideological slant, and lack of transparency in sourcing.
Despite these controversies, Musk’s supporters argue that Grokipedia marks a major step toward decentralizing information and reducing media bias. The platform aims to grow rapidly, with plans to expand categories and introduce user verification tools in future updates.
