Islamabad — The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a formal notice to Shafiullah Jan, seeking an explanation over allegations related to irregularities in the Haripur by-election, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to election authorities, the notice was dispatched after statements surfaced alleging misconduct and procedural violations during the by-poll process. The commission has asked Shafiullah Jan to submit a written response within the stipulated timeframe, clarifying the basis of his claims.
Commission Reviews Allegations
ECP officials said the allegations are being examined to determine whether they breach election laws or undermine the credibility of the electoral process. The commission stressed that unsubstantiated claims can erode public trust and must be addressed through legal and institutional channels.
The notice also seeks clarification on whether any formal complaints were filed at the appropriate stage and whether evidence exists to support the assertions made regarding the conduct of the by-election.
Commitment to Electoral Integrity
The election body reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency, fairness and neutrality in all electoral exercises. It emphasized that individuals raising concerns must follow due process and avoid statements that could mislead voters or damage institutional credibility.
Officials added that further action will depend on the response submitted and the findings of the commission’s review.
