LOS ANGELES – A fiery debate has erupted across global social media platforms following the release of the latest Superman film, with many claiming that the movie subtly calls out Israel over its military actions in Gaza. The controversy stems from scenes that viewers say draw unmistakable parallels between the film’s fictional conflict and the real-world humanitarian crisis unfolding in Palestine.
In the film, Superman is seen protecting civilians in a war-torn area called Jahranpur from the aggressive attacks of a militarised force representing Boravia. Though these countries are fictional, audiences argue that the imagery and themes heavily mirror the Israel–Gaza situation—particularly scenes depicting bombed-out buildings, displaced civilians, and a helpless population seeking justice.
The internet has been ablaze with commentary. “Superman is woke and anti-Israel. This is blatant,” one user posted on X, while others praised the film for allegedly highlighting injustices faced by Palestinians. The phrase “Superman stands with Gaza” even began trending in some regions.
Director James Gunn, however, denied any deliberate political messaging, stating that the script was completed well before the latest conflict escalated. Despite the clarification, the debate shows no signs of slowing down, as supporters and critics continue to dissect the symbolism woven into the superhero saga.
