TURBAT — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Saturday reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and socio-economic progress in Balochistan during his visit to Turbat.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army Chief was comprehensively briefed on the security dynamics of the region, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, and multiple development initiatives underway in southern Balochistan.
Highlighting the need for inclusive growth, General Munir stressed that lasting stability in Balochistan can only be achieved through a combination of robust security measures and sustainable development initiatives. He said the Pakistan Army would continue to work closely with the provincial government and local communities to uplift the region and improve the lives of its people.
“The Pakistan Army stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Balochistan in their quest for peace and prosperity,” General Munir stated during his address to tribal elders and community leaders in Turbat.
Focus on Development and Governance
During his visit, General Munir reviewed key projects, including infrastructure upgrades, healthcare facilities, and educational programs aimed at empowering the youth of Balochistan. He also emphasized that good governance and transparent execution of development initiatives are critical to bridging the gap between the government and the people.
Sources reveal that several new development schemes will be launched in southern Balochistan in the coming months, including road networks to improve connectivity, modern healthcare centers, and vocational training programs designed to enhance employment opportunities.
Strategic Importance of Southern Balochistan
Southern Balochistan, particularly Turbat and surrounding districts, has long been a focal point for both security operations and economic initiatives. The region’s strategic proximity to the Gwadar Port and key infrastructure corridors under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project further amplifies its importance in Pakistan’s economic and security framework.
Experts note that while security operations have significantly reduced violence in the area, long-term peace will depend on how effectively development efforts are implemented and whether they meet the expectations of the local population.
Building Trust and Collaboration
Local leaders welcomed the Army Chief’s visit, viewing it as a strong gesture of reassurance and commitment. Analysts believe such high-level engagements play a critical role in building trust between the state and the local communities, which is essential for sustained peace and progress in the province.
