ISLAMABAD – A delegation from the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) visited Pakistan from August 24 to 28 to review the country’s progress in science and technology, the Foreign Office confirmed.
The five-member team held meetings with the Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and toured leading research institutions, including the National Centre for Physics (NCP), Heavy Mechanical Complex-3 (HMC-3), Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL), and the National Institute for Laser and Optronics (NILOP).
Strengthening Ties with CERN
Pakistan became an associate member of CERN in 2015. Since then, the country has benefitted from industrial and engineering contracts, scientific knowledge transfer, and academic exchanges. The collaboration has also enhanced local capacity in advanced technologies and helped train a new generation of scientists and engineers.
The Foreign Office noted that Pakistan’s affiliation with CERN continues to expand opportunities for technological growth and reinforces its commitment to international scientific cooperation.
