LOS ANGELES – Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom to testify in a civil lawsuit filed by former security guard Emani Ellis. The case stems from an alleged incident in February 2018, when Cardi B was reportedly involved in an altercation outside a Beverly Hills medical office while four months pregnant.
Ellis claims that Cardi B assaulted her, including striking and spitting, and that the confrontation caused injuries requiring medical attention. Cardi B denied all allegations of physical assault, stating that no contact occurred and describing the event as a verbal dispute. She also denied using racial slurs or spitting on Ellis and maintained that her actions were defensive.
The defense highlighted inconsistencies in the plaintiff’s account, suggesting that Ellis was the aggressor. The trial continues with both sides presenting evidence and testimony. Ellis is seeking monetary damages for claims including assault, battery, emotional distress, and false imprisonment.
